Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh
The Division of Child Neurology is located in Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, a 235-bed facility serving a pediatric population of several million. Patients with neurological disorders are assigned to any available bed. The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Epilepsy Center is an independent inpatient hospital unit and is capable of monitoring four patients at a time. The equipment includes state-of-the-art digital EEG/video technology and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The neurology outpatient clinic is located in a dedicated suite of rooms adjacent to the neurology office suite. The outpatient clinical area contains six patient exam rooms, a teaching and consultation room, a nurses' station and a patient waiting area. Outpatients are seen in the outpatient clinic five days a week, Monday through Friday.
Hillman Cancer Center
The Neuro-Oncology Division is based at the state of the art Hillman Cancer Center on the Shadyside Campus. The Hillman Cancer Center houses multi-disciplinary research labs, a fully integrated cancer care center, and an outpatient ambulatory suite.
Neurology Ambulatory Clinic
The Department of Neurology provides an active outpatient ambulatory practice in the Kaufmann Medical Building, directly adjacent to the central administrative and academic offices of the Department. The Neurology Outpatient Clinic is comprised of 18 examination/consultation rooms, 2 procedure rooms, a spacious waiting area for patients and a large reception area for staff and office records. The outpatient offices of the Stroke Institute utilize the same space as the Neurology Outpatient Clinic.
Pittsburgh VA Medical Center
The Neurology inpatient facility is a 6-bed unit on a medical ward. These are supported by full consultation and diagnostic facilities including medical and surgical subspecialties and a complete neuroradiology facility including CT scan, MRI/MRA, and angiography capabilities. State-of-the-art medical and surgical intensive care units and a step-down “observation” unit staffed by the medical service is available for neurology patients requiring that level of care. A one bed (daytime only) Epilepsy Monitoring Unit is adjacent to the Neurology Clinic.
The Neurology Outpatient Clinic is located in a dedicated suite of rooms adjacent to the Neurology office suite, comprised of six examination rooms, a reception area, a waiting room, and two nurses’ offices.
The Department of Neurology's Inpatient facilities are comprised of a 24-bed Neurology Unit (including the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) and ICU and Step-down Units shared with Neurosurgery. These are supported by full consultation and diagnostic facilities, including medical and surgical subspecialties and a complete neuroradiology facility. In addition, state-of-the-art neurology/neurosurgery intensive care units, and an 8-bed digital video-EEG monitoring unit are also available.
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic
Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) is one of the largest university-based clinical, educational, and research psychiatry facilities in the United States. It houses the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. There is close cooperation between the Department of Psychiatry-WPIC and the Department of Neurology, as demonstrated by joint appointments held by several faculty members, reciprocal rotations for residents, and the close coordination of the two teaching programs. The department provides EEG services as well as inpatient consultations at this site.
