Biographical Sketch

Alhamza R. Al-Bayati, MD, received his medical degree from University of Baghdad, College of Medicine. He completed his neurology residency at Loma Linda University Health in California then pursued further training in vascular neurology at UPMC and neurointerventional radiology at Emory University School of Medicine.

Triple board certified in CNS Endovascular Surgery, Neurology, and Vascular Neurology, he is a nationally recognized leader in cerebrovascular and neuroendovascular care.

As national co-chair of the SVIN Registry, Dr. Al-Bayati helps lead one of the field's foremost neuroendovascular data initiatives, and he serves on multiple national and institutional committees. He serves as site principal investigator on multiple clinical trials and as a member of Data Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs) overseeing trial safety and conduct.

His clinical and academic work focuses on advancing the treatment of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke across the lifespan, with expertise in complex endovascular interventions, pediatric cerebrovascular disease, and acute stroke therapies. He is actively involved in international collaborative research aimed at refining endovascular techniques and translating emerging evidence into real-world clinical practice.

A dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Al-Bayati plays a central role in training the next generation of stroke neurologists and neurointerventionalists. His leadership in clinical outcomes research, consensus initiatives, and multidisciplinary collaborations has helped drive innovation, elevate quality standards, and advance evidence-based cerebrovascular care.

Dr. Al-Bayati is engaged in a robust clinical and scientific research mission at one of the nation's busiest stroke centers. Drawing on this high-volume clinical experience and a strong mentorship culture, he continues to drive the UPMC Stroke Institute toward greater cerebrovascular excellence and improved patient outcomes.
