Biographical Sketch
Mohamed (Mo) F. Doheim, MD, PhD, FRCP, is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in Clinical Research at the UPMC Stroke Institute, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he focuses on precision medicine, artificial intelligence, and innovation in acute ischemic stroke and neurological care. His research integrates clinical trial evidence, big data analytics, and AI-driven modeling to move beyond one-size-fits-all approaches toward individualized treatment selection, procedural optimization, and improved stroke systems of care. Dr. Doheim earned his MD from Alexandria University, Egypt and completed postdoctoral clinical research fellowship training and NIH StrokeNet Fellowship at the UPMC Stroke Institute, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He received his PhD from Maastricht University with a dissertation titled “Beyond One-Size-Fits-All in Acute Ischemic Stroke: From Data-Driven Approaches to Personalized Clinical Decision-Making,” and he is currently pursuing a Master of Data Science at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the Founding Director and Principal Investigator of the NeuroPrecision Lab and serves as Primary Manager and Co-Investigator of the multicenter DUSK Trial, focused on distal medium vessel occlusion stroke. He is also Chief Executive Officer of HORUS NeuroTechnologies, a Pitt-licensed startup developing digital solutions and clinical decision support systems for acute neurological disorders.

Dr. Doheim’s work spans endovascular therapy optimization, AI-enabled stroke triage, heterogeneity of treatment effect modeling, clinical trial design, and translational neurovascular innovation. His contributions include research on distal and medium vessel occlusion stroke, posterior circulation stroke, thrombectomy systems of care, thrombolysis strategies, and explainable counterfactual treatment estimation models. He has authored or co-authored more than 180 peer-reviewed publications and conference abstracts, including work in Annals of Neurology, Neurology, Stroke, Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, The Lancet, The Lancet Neurology, Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, and other leading journals. His recent publications include studies on individualized treatment in distal and medium vessel occlusion stroke, AI-driven triage and transfer efficiency, extended-window IV thrombolysis, posterior circulation thrombectomy, and stroke systems of care. Beyond research, he is active in mentorship, teaching, peer review, and editorial leadership. He has peer-reviewed dozens of manuscripts for over 25 journals, served in editorial roles, and delivered extensive instruction in clinical research, biomedical statistics, evidence-based medicine, scientific writing, and critical appraisal.
