Training Programs

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurology provides medical education in a wide variety of forums at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh. Faculty contribute to undergraduate and graduate-level education at several sites, as well as to the continuing education of their colleagues. 

Residency Program

The department offers a four-year (PGY 1-4) residency training program or a three-year (PGY 2-4) residency training program to candidates who have successfully completed one year of postgraduate resident medical training.

Fellowships

Conferences and Lectures

Weekly Resident Conferences and Review Lectures

Individual members lead daily teaching rounds and the department holds weekly resident conferences and lectures to discuss the specific neurologic concepts, techniques, problems and solutions. Recorded CME Lectures

Continuing medical education (CME) is continuing education (CE) that helps trainees and experts in the medical field maintain competence and learn about new and developing areas of their field. Faculty and trainees in the department of neurology who have recorded CME videos can be found here.

Grand Rounds Lectures

University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurology Grand Rounds is a weekly lecture that serves as a major teaching and intellectual activity for the department. Faculty and trainees are expected to attend. Speakers may include local faculty and residents from many disciplines or visiting national experts.

Info for Medical Students

The clinical neurology clerkship is a third-year core clerkship where medical students are scheduled per preference in one of six clinical sites: the inpatient ward service, the inpatient consults service, the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center, Shadyside Hospital, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, or neurology outpatient clinics.
