Matthew Flounders, DO

PGY-2 Resident

Biographical Sketch

Matt is a second-year neurology resident with clinical interests in movement disorders and general neurology. He chose to pursue his neurology training at UPMC because of the comprehensive neurologic care provided to patients and the vibrant community in Pittsburgh, as well as the opportunity to grow as a team member within a specialized and committed department of neurologists in Pennsylvania.

His current research interests lie at the intersection of cognition, neuroinflammation, and neurovascular risk factors. This focus emerged from his post-graduate research experiences in multi-modal neuroimaging in the Perception and Brain Dynamics Lab at New York University (Dr. Biyu He) and the Center for Brain Imaging and Stimulation at the University of Pennsylvania (Dr. Desmond Oathes). These opportunities deepened his interest in clinical neurology and served as catalysts for his pursuit of a career in medicine. Outside of residency, Matt enjoys running, cycling, attending live music events, and going to the movies.
