Wittenberg to Chair 2022-2023 Neurology Grand Rounds Committee

Pittsburgh, August 17, 2022 – George F. Wittenberg, MD, PhD, will chair the 2022-2023 Department of Neurology Ground Rounds Committee. The faculty members on this year’s committee will include James F. Castellano, MD, PhDHouman Homayoun, MD, and Alexis Steinberg, MD; the residents are Lamees Alzyoud, MD, and Meghan Piccinin, MD. Ms. Audrey Rohe will be the administrative coordinator – Department of Neurology faculty, trainees and staff are encouraged to submit their ideas for grand rounds speakers and/or topics to Dr. Wittenberg with a copy to Ms. Rohe.

Dr. Wittenberg has been a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh and a neurologist at the VAPHS since February of 2018. He was previously at the University of Maryland for twelve years and was strategic in organizing some grand rounds in neurology, specifically highlighting and encouraging collaboration between clinical members of the neurology department and basic scientists. Dr. Wittenberg was attracted to the city of Pittsburgh because of the incredible resources available for clinical expertise and engineering approaches regarding neurorehabilitation. Dr. Wittenberg sees the need to improve awareness of current research happening in Pittsburgh and believe grand rounds to be one answer, as well as an important function for faculty and trainees to present clinical updates, clinical research and presentations.

A special thank you to Rock A. Heyman, MD, who Dr. Wittenberg succeeds in this role. Dr. Heyman was a co-chair of Neurology Grand Rounds for over sixteen years; his commitment to working with colleagues in and outside of the department has set the example of good leadership and provided fruitful learning experiences for all.
