The Division of Women’s Neurology is pleased to offer a clinical fellowship opportunity. The field of Women’s Neurology is complex and includes neurologic disease with a higher prevalence in women as well as diseases that require specialized management during a woman’s reproductive years, pregnancy, the postpartum period, and menopause. At the University of Pittsburgh, we are well situated to provide specialized training in this field as we feature a large academic neurology program and Magee Womens Hospital, where over 19,000 deliveries occur annually.
The Women’s Neurology Fellowship is two years in length. The first year is an accredited program in clinical neurophysiology/EEG or epilepsy. The second year begins with an immersion into the field of obstetrics with time spent on the high-risk obstetrical service and the obstetrical anesthesia service. During the remainder of the year, under the supervision of the chief of Women’s Neurology, the fellow sees consults at Magee on obstetrical patients with various neurologic disorders including preeclampsia/eclampsia, seizures, primary and secondary headaches, stroke, primary brain neoplasms, and post-partum neuropathy. The fellow also follows patients in the outpatient setting at the Obstetrical Neurology Clinic, Headache Clinic and at the Multiple Sclerosis Care Center. Elective time is available to rotate through other services, including the inpatient stroke service at Presbyterian Hospital. Finally, there is time dedicated to independent education and research.
